1.6 FSI OR 1.9 TDI

Just got to sell the Audi A2 TDI first.
My dilemma is do I go for the FSI or TDI engine ???
I had the 1.9 TDI engine in the SEAT Altea I previously owned, so I know what that can do and perform like, just need to make sure I make the right decision. It seems the fuel economy is approx. 10 mpg less for the petrol version, but does this really matter with the kind of journeys I make.
I will steer clear of the 1.6 8 valve though.
Is there still the issue with the coil pack going on the FSI ??
What sort of mileage can be expected from the TDI before things start getting expensive, because seen some Rans with close on 70k on the clock and thinking is that going to start to cost money (well that is my wifes thinking).
I do approx 10 to 11000 miles a year with the occasional long run for Holidays and visiting family, other than that it is school runs, 10 mile round trip for work etc etc.
I have two boys aged 8 & 5 and wondered when the time comes for the long haul journeys with the car loaded is the 1.6 FSI up to the job. Tax and insurance are not an issue.
When did the four light headlamp replace the three version ?? dont really like the 3 lamp version, maybe just being picky now.
All thoughts accepted.
Thanks

Not sure what you mean when you say you'll steer clear of the 1.6 8v as I'm pretty sure the Touran only came with one 1.6 petrol engine and that was the FSI?
Anyhoo, I think the 1.6 petrol would be really underpowered, the Atea is based on the same floorpan as the Altea so can you imagine having a 1.6 petrol engine in that? I would definetly go for the 1.9TDI over the 1.6FSI as it'll be a much better performer fully loaded.
As for the headlamps, the 3 light ones came on the 'S' models from about 2005/06 onwards on pre-facelift models.
Hope this helps! :)

FSi feels like it have more low down torque, TDi over 1.6 but all diesels had highiles and petrols didint. Avoid mobility ones!!!! They are hammered

All the Tourans are in a different tax bands
Been checking on the DVLA website when looking at individual vehicles
1.6 FSI is £ 175
1.9/2.0 TDI is £ 150
2.0 FSI is £ 215

There is the 1.6 which has 105 BHP
AND
The 1.6 FSI which has 115 BHP
I have just checked the 2005 brochure and it is stated in there about the 2 1.6 engines
I presume you meant the Altea is based on the same floorpan as the Touran.
That is what I really want is a diesel with the four light version headlamp. It looks so much better than the three lamp version.

On the plus side the FSI is nice and quiet, economical for a petrol and faster (0-60). On the down side they only like 98RON fuel, are underpowered when loaded (you have to change down on motorway inclines) and lack the mid range punch of the TDI.
The 2.0FSI is a lovely motor, and seriously quick, but you pay for at the pumps. The old 1.6 8V is still available in 'S' spec, but avoid like the plague as its bound to be worse than the FSI version.

I suppose looking at it like like that it is not too bad, but when I am only paying £ 35 a year at the moment for the A2 it is a big jump. I was paying £ 125 for Altea befor ethe re-jig of prices.

Good to know
The two FSI's I had my eye on have been SOLD, perhaps a good thing now and will concentrate on getting a good 1.9 TDI.

now on, I get 35 mpg out of which is fine for the light miles we do.
It's fast, 1.6 FSi was ok but 1.9 TDi 90 was better.
The trade of for buying the petrol was a car with less miles on the clock and a bit newer.
If you looking at an s get a 2006 onwards it got alloys & cruise control.

I ran a Alhambra 1.9 TDI from 90,000 to 160,000 with very few mechanical issues, none at all with the engine. Ensure the service history is complete and try to avoid 'town' cars if possible.
